untitled shoot-003-2.jpg

Hi

I am a landscape photographer from Central Scotland who enjoys nothing more than being by the coast or a flowing river, capturing their movement to create soft, ethereal and subtle images whether as part of a wider vista or intimate detail.

My photography journey started back in 2007 having made a road trip to the Geneva motor show with my friend armed with a Kodak compact digital camera. At this point I was bitten by the bug and invested in my first DSLR on return from Geneva. That camera was a Sony a100 as I was able to utilise an array of Minolta lenses owned by my dad who himself was a keen photographer. To this day I continue to use Sony cameras albeit mirrorless ones now.

My initial interest was in car and motorsport photography and I spent many hours at Knockhill racing circuit photographing various events and had a desire to photograph cars for magazine’s etc as it covered the two things I enjoyed the most. Days off work usually resulted in my friend and I embarking on road trips around Scotland. My focus began to shift towards the landscape and capturing the beauty of Scotland and connecting with nature. I found it was a great way to get away from it all and relax which has in turn influenced my photographic style.

Self taught, I have travelled to all corners of Scotland capturing the fantastic scenery and coastline the country has to offer and doing so I have photographed and witnessed some incredibly beautiful sights. From the early days of trial and error trying to learn landscape photography I had a deep ambition to one day teach photography and I now run group landscape photography workshops across Scotland.

Water features strongly in my work and with the use of long exposure and an eye for the small details I have developed a minimal approach to composition, which I hope give my images a relaxing and calming feel.

I have received various awards over the years in competitions and in November 2018 I was awarded a Licentiate distinction of the Royal Photographic Society.
